The Opportunity
We are recruiting for an experienced Business Development Manager to join a leading civil engineering and utility infrastructure contractor. This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in expanding an established energy infrastructure business, developing new client relationships and securing work across the UK.
Working within the gas and energy sector, you'll be responsible for identifying and converting opportunities across framework agreements, repeat business and strategic client accounts, helping to deliver a strong pipeline of projects ranging from £500k to £50m+.
This role is ideal for someone who enjoys building long-term client relationships, developing regional opportunities and working closely with estimating, commercial and operational teams to win work.
Key Responsibilities
- Identify, develop and secure new business opportunities across the UK energy infrastructure market.
- Grow existing client relationships while developing new framework and repeat business opportunities.
- Manage a healthy pipeline of projects from initial enquiry through to contract award.
- Work closely with estimating, commercial and bid teams to prepare high-quality tender submissions.
- Develop pursuit strategies and manage opportunities through the full sales lifecycle.
- Build relationships with utilities, developers, asset owners and key stakeholders.
- Support strategic framework bids and major business development initiatives.
- Monitor market trends, procurement pipelines and upcoming framework opportunities.
- Maintain accurate CRM records, forecasting and pipeline reporting.
- Identify opportunities to cross-sell complementary infrastructure services.
What We're Looking For
- Minimum 5 years' business development experience within utilities, civil engineering or energy infrastructure.
- Proven track record of winning work through frameworks and repeat business.
- Strong understanding of UK utility procurement and tendering processes.
- Experience working with gas, energy or utility infrastructure projects.
- Excellent commercial awareness and negotiation skills.
- Ability to build relationships with clients at all levels.
- Experience managing multiple opportunities simultaneously.
- Strong communication, presentation and stakeholder management skills.
- Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and as part of a wider team.
Desirable Experience
- Degree in Engineering, Business or a related discipline (or equivalent industry experience).
- Knowledge of Design & Build, DBO or BOOT delivery models.
- Experience with DNOs, IGTs, ICPs or wider UK utility frameworks.
- Familiarity with CRM systems and pipeline management.
