Tiny steps. Huge breakthroughs. Ready to teach where progress looks different, but means everything?

This specialist provision is seeking a nurturing but highly structured SEN Teacher to lead a small class of pupils aged 4–7 with complex learning needs, autism and social communication difficulties.

This is not a mainstream EYFS role with light adjustments. This is fully personalised, sensory-informed teaching where relationship building comes before phonics.

The Type of Teacher They’re Looking For

They are looking for someone:

• Calm, steady and emotionally intelligent
• Confident leading a team of 3–4 Teaching Assistants
• Comfortable teaching early phonics in highly differentiated ways
• Skilled at breaking learning into very small, measurable steps
• Patient enough to repeat routines daily without frustration

You must believe that behaviour is communication.

Daily Expectations & Routine

Morning Start (8:30am–9:00am)
Structured transition into class, emotional check-ins and visual timetable review.

Core Learning Blocks
• Sensory-informed phonics
• Play-based but structured maths
• Communication sessions with visual scaffolds
• Short, focused activities with frequent regulation breaks

Sensory & Regulation Time
Pupils require movement breaks and sensory circuits throughout the day.

Lunch & Social Development
Staff eat with pupils and model structured social communication.

Pupils leave at 4pm. Staff remain until 4:30pm for planning, EHCP tracking and collaborative review meetings.

Behaviour & Environment

• Calm, low-arousal classrooms
• Visual timetables in every room
• Consistent behaviour scripts used by all staff
• De-escalation before consequence
• Physical intervention extremely rare and only as last resort

Experience & Pay Scale

Qualified Teacher Status is required.

Experience within specialist SEN settings is highly desirable but not essential for the right teacher with strong Early Years or KS1 background and the right mindset.

Salary aligned to teacher pay scale depending on experience.
