We're working with a welcoming specialist provision in Sunderland that is preparing for a September start and looking to welcome a dedicated BSL Teaching Assistant to their team on a full-time basis.

This rewarding role involves supporting deaf and hearing-impaired pupils to access learning, communicate effectively and achieve their full potential within a supportive educational environment.

We're looking for a patient, caring and proactive individual with British Sign Language skills who is passionate about making a difference in the lives of young people.

What you'll be doing

• Providing 1:1 and small group support to deaf and hearing-impaired pupils
• Using British Sign Language (BSL) to support communication throughout the school day
• Working closely with teachers to adapt learning materials where required
• Encouraging pupil engagement, independence and confidence
• Supporting pupils' social, emotional and academic development
• Monitoring and recording pupil progress

What we're looking for

• BSL qualification or strong practical BSL experience
• A genuine passion for supporting children and young people
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
• A patient, supportive and adaptable approach
• Experience working within education or support settings is desirable
• Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to apply)

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
