Behaviour Support Worker
Secondary School | South Leeds | Full-Time | September Start

Not every student follows the same path, and that’s where you come in.

We’re looking for a resilient and empathetic Behaviour Support Worker to join a secondary school in South Leeds from September. This is a full-time role supporting students at risk of exclusion, helping them stay engaged, feel understood, and find a more positive way forward in school.

The role
You’ll work closely with students who are finding school life challenging, often due to behaviour, emotional needs, or external factors. Your role is to step in early, build strong relationships, and provide the consistent support they need to stay in education.

This isn’t about quick fixes. It’s about patience, trust, and showing up every day.

What you’ll be doing

  • Supporting students on a 1:1 and small group basis
  • De-escalating situations and managing challenging behaviour calmly
  • Helping students regulate emotions and re-engage with learning
  • Working alongside pastoral teams, SENCOs, and teaching staff
  • Implementing behaviour plans and tracking progress
  • Acting as a positive role model throughout the school day

What we’re looking for
We’re keen to hear from people who understand that behaviour is communication and are confident supporting students who may push boundaries.

You’ll ideally have:

  • Experience working with secondary-aged students
  • A background in behaviour support, SEMH, youth work, or similar
  • Experience supporting pupils at risk of exclusion or in alternative provision
  • Strong behaviour management skills with a calm, consistent approach
  • An understanding of trauma-informed practice or restorative approaches

The kind of person who thrives in this role
You don’t take things personally, and you don’t give up easily.

You might be:

  • Calm under pressure, even when things feel unpredictable
  • Firm but fair, setting clear boundaries while building trust
  • Resilient, able to reset and go again each day
  • A strong communicator who can connect with young people from all backgrounds

You’ll be someone students remember, not just for keeping them on track, but for believing in them when it mattered most.

Why this role matters
For some students, the difference between exclusion and success is one consistent adult who understands them. This role is your chance to be that person.

Next steps
If you’re ready to make a real difference in a challenging but hugely rewarding role, we’d love to hear from you.
