

Autism Mentor
Protocol Education is working with a primary school in Kingswood seeking an Autism Mentor to support pupils with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC).
This role involves providing consistent support to children both inside and outside the classroom, helping them access learning, develop social communication skills, and build confidence throughout the school day.
Previous experience supporting children or young people with autism is desirable, but we also welcome applications from candidates with backgrounds in care, support work, youth work, residential settings, coaching, or mentoring.
Key responsibilities:
- Supporting pupils with autism on a 1:1 and small group basis
- Helping pupils access classroom learning and daily routines
- Using strategies to support communication, engagement, and emotional regulation
- Working closely with teachers, SENCOs, and other support staff
- Promoting independence, confidence, and positive relationships
The ideal candidate will:
- Have experience working with children or young people
- Be patient, calm, and able to adapt their approach to individual needs
- Have an understanding of autism and neurodiversity
- Be confident building positive relationships with pupils and staff
- Have experience supporting SEND needs, particularly autism, although this is not essential

Compliance and Safeguarding

- An Enhanced Child Workforce DBS registered on the Update Service, or willingness to obtain one
- Two professional references covering the last two years of employment, with any gaps in employment accounted for
- Verification of identity, right to work, and employment history
- Full safeguarding and vetting checks in line with Keeping Children Safe in Education (KCSIE) guidance

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
