Design Manager - Hitchin (Freelance, Inside IR35)

A leading Tier 1 Main Contractor is looking to appoint an experienced Design Manager for a number of newly approved projects based in Hitchin.

This is an excellent opportunity to join a growing project pipeline, with several schemes having recently received the green light. The client is ideally looking to engage someone on a freelance basis, operating inside IR35.

The Role

Working as part of an established project delivery team, you'll be responsible for managing the design process from pre-construction through to delivery, ensuring design information is coordinated, compliant, and delivered to programme.

Projects will primarily be within:

Department for Education (DfE)

Local Authority

Blue Light (Emergency Services)

You'll work closely with the Principal/Project Lead, overseeing the design management function across multiple live schemes.

Requirements

Proven experience as a Design Manager with a Tier 1 Main Contractor.

Strong track record delivering public sector projects.

Experience working on DfE, Local Authority, and/or Blue Light projects is highly desirable.

Excellent stakeholder management and coordination skills.

Ability to manage the design process from concept through construction.

Strong understanding of programme, risk, buildability, and design compliance.
