Protocol Education is working with specialist schools and alternative provisions across Sunderland who are looking for SEMH Teaching Assistants to support pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs.

You'll work alongside experienced teachers and pastoral teams to help pupils overcome barriers to learning, regulate emotions and achieve positive outcomes. Every day is different, making this a rewarding opportunity for someone who enjoys building relationships and making a lasting impact.

Your responsibilities

  • Supporting pupils with SEMH on a 1:1 and small group basis
  • Promoting positive behaviour using consistent strategies
  • Encouraging engagement within lessons
  • Supporting emotional regulation throughout the school day
  • Building positive relationships with pupils and staff
  • Assisting with classroom activities and interventions
  • Helping pupils develop confidence and resilience

We'd love to hear from you if you have:

  • Experience working with children or young people
  • A calm and patient approach
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Resilience and confidence managing challenging situations
  • Experience within education, care, youth work or sports coaching
  • A genuine passion for supporting young people

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
