Level 2 BSL Teaching Assistant – Specialist Provision, Gateshead

A welcoming and inclusive specialist provision in Gateshead is seeking a compassionate and dedicated Level 2 BSL Teaching Assistant to join their team from September on a full-time basis.

This rewarding opportunity involves supporting deaf and hearing-impaired pupils to fully access learning, build confidence and thrive within a nurturing educational environment.

The role will involve:

  • Providing tailored support to pupils on a 1:1 and small group basis
  • Using British Sign Language (BSL) to facilitate communication throughout the school day
  • Supporting teaching staff in delivering accessible learning experiences
  • Promoting independence, confidence and positive engagement
  • Assisting with pupils' social, emotional and academic development
  • Recording observations and supporting progress monitoring

We're looking for someone who:

  • Holds a Level 2 BSL qualification
  • Has a genuine passion for supporting children and young people
  • Demonstrates excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Is patient, caring and adaptable
  • Has experience working with children or young people (desirable)
  • Holds an Enhanced DBS on the Update Service or is willing to obtain one
