Graduate Mental Health Support Assistant – Gateshead (Full-Time)

Are you a graduate with a passion for supporting young people and promoting positive mental health? We are looking for a dedicated Graduate Mental Health Support Assistant to join a welcoming specialist school in Gateshead, supporting pupils with additional learning needs, including SEND and Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs.

This is an excellent opportunity for graduates considering careers in Educational Psychology, Clinical Psychology, Mental Health, Counselling, Social Work or Teaching. You'll gain invaluable hands-on experience while helping pupils overcome barriers to learning and reach their full potential.

The Role

As a Graduate Mental Health Support Assistant, you'll work closely with teaching staff and pastoral teams to create a safe, nurturing and engaging learning environment. Every day offers the opportunity to build meaningful relationships and positively impact pupils' confidence, wellbeing and academic progress.

Your Responsibilities

  • Deliver 1:1 and small-group interventions.
  • Support pupils with emotional regulation and wellbeing.
  • Encourage positive behaviour and social development.
  • Help pupils engage confidently with learning.
  • Build trusted relationships with students, families and staff.
  • Promote an inclusive and supportive classroom environment.

  • A caring, patient and resilient individual.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • A genuine passion for supporting children's mental health and education.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
