Managing Quantity Surveyor – Durham

We’re supporting a leading civil engineering contractor in the search for an experienced Managing Quantity Surveyor to lead the commercial function across a range of infrastructure projects in the North East, Tees Valley, Yorkshire and the Humber.

This is a senior leadership opportunity where you’ll oversee commercial performance, manage project teams, and play a key role in delivering high-value civil engineering schemes.

The role:
You’ll take overall responsibility for commercial management across multiple projects, ensuring robust cost control, contract administration, and financial reporting, while leading and developing a team of Quantity Surveyors.

Key responsibilities:
• Overseeing interim applications and final accounts across multiple projects
• Leading the administration of NEC3 / NEC4 contracts
• Managing risk through early warnings and commercial strategy
• Overseeing compensation events and ensuring accurate pricing and submission
• Leading financial forecasting, CVRs, and commercial reporting
• Managing subcontract procurement, approvals, and commercial performance
• Ensuring accurate site records and contractual compliance
• Building and maintaining strong client and stakeholder relationships
• Leading, mentoring, and developing the commercial team

What we’re looking for:
• Extensive experience in a senior commercial/QS role within civil engineering
• Proven track record managing multiple projects and teams
• Strong expertise in NEC contracts and contract frameworks
• Excellent leadership, communication, and commercial decision-making skills
• Ability to operate effectively in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment
• Strong financial and commercial acumen
• Full UK driving licence
