The Company
A long established, privately owned group delivering specialist public and private works contracts across the UK. With over 40 years of experience, the Group operates nationally with a workforce of 1,000+ and is widely recognised for its self delivery model across infrastructure services including highways, rail, fencing, traffic management, waste & recycling, and plant operations. The business works extensively on framework agreements and long term partnerships for clients such as National Highways, Network Rail, local authorities, and major contractors, delivering technically complex, safety critical schemes across the Midlands and beyond. Due to continued workload and secured frameworks, the company is seeking a Quantity Surveyor to support the commercial delivery of ongoing and future projects.
The Role
Reporting into the Commercial Manager, the Quantity Surveyor will play a key role in the commercial management of live civil engineering and infrastructure projects, predominantly delivered through frameworks and repeat client arrangements.
Typical projects span:
- Highways and transport infrastructure
- Rail related works
- Safety fencing, traffic management, and enabling works
- Multi disciplinary, fast paced operational schemes
This is a hands on role suited to someone comfortable working closely with operations, subcontractors, and clients in a self delivery environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Commercial management of projects from pre start through to final account
- Preparation, monitoring, and reporting of project cost/value forecasts
- Management of subcontractor procurement, valuations, and final accounts
- Administration of change control, variations, and compensation events (NEC exposure preferred)
- Cost control and margin protection across multiple workstreams
- Supporting applications for payment and client valuations
- Contributing to risk management and commercial strategy on framework works
- Building strong working relationships with operations, supply chain, and clients
About You
- Quantity Surveyor or Senior QS
- Background in civil engineering, infrastructure, highways, rail, or specialist contracting
- Experience working on framework contracts or term maintenance style works is highly advantageous
- Strong commercial awareness and cost control capability
- Degree or equivalent qualification in Quantity Surveying or Construction related discipline (preferred but not essential)
