Youth Worker
If you've supported young people through challenging situations, helped build confidence or acted as a positive role model, your skills could make a huge difference in a school setting.
We're looking for a Youth Worker to join a welcoming primary school in Bradley Stoke as a Behaviour Mentor, supporting Key Stage 2 pupils who need extra guidance with behaviour, emotional regulation and engagement in learning.
This is a fantastic opportunity if you're looking to move into education while continuing to have a real impact on young people's lives.
Your role
No two days are the same. You'll become a trusted adult for pupils who need consistency, encouragement and someone who genuinely believes in them.
Working closely with teachers and the pastoral team, you'll help children overcome barriers to learning, develop positive relationships and build the confidence they need to succeed in the classroom.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Supporting pupils on a one-to-one basis and in small groups.
- Building positive, trusting relationships with children.
- Helping pupils manage their emotions and make positive choices.
- Encouraging engagement with classroom learning and school life.
- Supporting children with social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) needs.
- Promoting positive behaviour using patience, empathy and consistency.
- Working alongside teachers, SEND staff and the pastoral team.
- Recording progress and celebrating every success, no matter how small.
- Creating a safe, calm and inclusive learning environment.
We'd love to hear from you if you've worked as a:
- Youth Worker
- Behaviour Mentor
- Learning Mentor
- Family Support Worker
- Residential Support Worker
- Children's Support Worker
- Sports Coach
- Teaching Assistant
- SEN Support Worker
- Community Mentor
- Support Worker
- Police Cadet Leader
- Prison or Probation Support Worker
- Psychology or Criminology Graduate
No school experience? That's absolutely fine. If you've supported children or young people in another setting, we'd love to hear how your experience could transfer into education.
What we're looking for
- Experience working with children or young people.
- A calm, resilient and positive approach.
- Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
- Confidence managing challenging behaviour positively.
- A genuine passion for helping young people succeed.
- A team player who leads with empathy and consistency.
Why you'll love this role
Every child has a story, and sometimes all it takes is one trusted adult to help change the ending.
This role gives you the opportunity to become that person.
You'll gain valuable experience in education while working alongside experienced teachers and pastoral staff in a supportive school that values every member of the team.
Whether you're considering a future career in teaching, educational psychology, social work or youth justice, this role is an excellent stepping stone.
